July 19, 2009Joy of Subwy
July 19, 2009So we set out to Brooklyn with some enthusiasm, and somewhat bright in spirit Bex had said to ask the person at the station to make sure we were on the right train, but the ticket kiosk was empty, so we took a stab at it.
After we past 50th it occurred to me that we were going the wrong way, which a fellow passenger confirmed. Got out and found the right platform and waited about ten or so minutes for the train.
Got on that and were just feeling comfortable that we were on hour way when they made an announcement that the train was running nonstop between nignagniggynie and plintheplanandtheplag, and to transfer at sinsosomeawhere if we were stopping there. All I knew is where we were going.
The first person thought that yes, the train was going to Lafayette, and they were right; it just wasn’t stopping.
But asked someone else, and they put us right. One mire change and we got there okay- only about an hour late!
For those following at home; the A was running as a C except where it was replaced by the F (while the G replaced the F.)
Saturday Afternoon
July 19, 2009After Moma, we walled up 5th Avenue, stopping at The Gap, Zara, the Disney store, stopped in at Tiffanys (Skye drank from the marble fountain), FAO Schwartz, (walked past the Apple store), looked throuh books at some tables on Central Park, and walked up to the Met.
Meet my friend Carl there – used to work with him) and he showed us how to get in for $1. We had afternoon tea in the cafe and caught up, and then he showed us Marrie Antonnetres (sp?) dog house. King Louis must have been a small man.
Then caught a cab back to the hotel.
Friday night @ the movies
July 19, 2009Forgot to mention that we went to “500 Days of Summer” on Friday evening at the AMC Empire 25. The 25 means twenty fijve theaters! We were in 18, which was on the 5the floor, up several lloooooong escalators. We’d walked five blocks to the theater, and I think we went as far vertically as well.
Both enjoyed the movie

July 18, 2009Museum of Modern Art
July 18, 2009Like most modern art, there was little here I’d want to take home; though some of it was interesting: the Huey helicopter hanging in the entrance, the 1980s music scene posters and videos.
Thr Chinese house/items exhibition seemed to be more like a well ordered Yard Sale. A man on seeing that some odd amalgamation of rods, bars and a stuffed bunny was by a German, pointed and said “The Germans love that sort of shit!”
The best picture: an Andrew Wyeth.
